Littlestuff Weekender-8-27-2011

It was a long but pleasant day at the Lorain County Fair (OH). You may recall that I attended 46 county fairs last year plus the Ohio State Fair. The schedule this year is much less hectic so the few that I work are really enjoyable. Fairs (like malls) are a great place for observing humans and quasi-humans…particularly in the context surrounding a political booth or tent. Anecdotally, about 10% of the people expressed near-revulsion when they encountered our display, but I don’t know if it was because they were so brain-washed by the two old parties, or if the idea of politics made them ill. About 15-20% seemed to possess a healthy curiosity and sought more information or picked up some material. The remaining 75% or so suffered from raging indifference, and thus I have concluded……………we are doomed. Intentional ignorance, gross genetic stupidity and a lack of even a mere flicker of curiosity are the demolition tools of destruction for our nation. But the donuts made by the Wellington Band Boosters were outstanding.

Let’s see…Hurricane Irene, sluggish economy, high unemployment, fighting in the Mideast, war in Afghanistan, insurgents in Iraq, earthquakes, riots on the streets……I’m so glad the Teleprompter-in Chief and the First-Lady-of Food-Nagging have come home from vacationing. Aren’t you? Feel safer now?

Watch this Libyan mess very closely. Even though NATO and the IAEA claim that most of the mass weapons have been secured…..they said that about Belarus too, and the atomic material from is still leaking into the global marketplace. Remember, NATO is a bureaucracy which means that they are incompetent and seldom get it right.

For those of you who are ardent watchers of the various stock and commodity markets, but are not “day traders,” remember the market moves or fluctuates on news ……and rumors of news. By the time that actual facts are determined, the impact has already been absorbed.

This is a short column today because we’ve had a stressful busy week here at the Little Pat-Ch of Paradise in NW Ohio.

Littlestuff Weekender-4-2-2011

As a person who was reared on a farm, April is always a month of demarcation for me. Back in the day when we used the moldboard plow for everything, April is when the plowing and ground work would begin with fury. Also, depending on the weather, we might consider allowing the cows to roam out to pasture during the daylight hours. Easter usually was celebrated in April, and the “sunrise” services were special. One of my former preachers used to say “without the resurrection, the New Testament of the Word has no meaning. With the Resurrection, it means everything.”

Things are a little different in Libya than they were a week ago. Supposedly, we are no longer providing air power (at $700,000 per ordinance), but we now have CIA and SEALS on the ground there. Also, there are some rumblings that at Camp Lejeune, the Marines are being readied for some action. We shall see.

It seems unproductive to have such ferocious battles over two or three weeks funding for the federal government. My sense is that the Democrats are fighting every nickel of cuts in order to prevent their being “rolled” for the 2012 budget which is due by September 30^th. On the flip side, the House leadership wants to prove that they can “work” with Democrats by proposing token budget cuts and not attempting anything to severe. Then there is the minority of the Republican caucus who wants to have the showdown as early as possible in order to set the tone for going forward and to set the base for fiscal responsibility. The loudest and most vicious battle, by far, is the war of words. Personally, I believe the Democrats want to spend our nation into collapse (many of them doubt that it will happen because they get their training in economics from the backs of granola boxes), while the Republican leadership wants to display how “reasonable” they are. If one reads the second paragraph of The Declaration of Independence, you will find a passionate argument for shutting it down and building anew. As each day goes by, I become more committed to that point of view. Certainly a long term shut down would be painful and disruptive, but we might emerge with a more efficient and free government on the other side. Then again, perhaps not. Shoot, let’s give it a shot and see what happens.

Here in the Buckeye state Senate Bill 5 (re: public sector unions) has passed and been signed by Governor Kasich. The Democrats offered no amendments and made no attempts to change the bill as it wound its way through the process. It’s a two-pronged strategy: they can totally blame the GOP for attempting to destroy the public sector unions, thus securing their undying gratitude and dollars for perpetuity; and they can make the argument in the next election cycle for more Democrats in the legislature to stop the steamrolling Republicans. I believe that the D’s and their union pals have miscalculated the public sentiment. They have already begun to gather signatures to place the repeal of SB 5 on the ballot which will lead to a showdown of raw political power. The Ohio version of the “O.K. Corral” is coming soon to a street and polling place near you.

Littlestuff Weekender-3-26-2011

This is the final weekend of March, but March Madness continues on into April. No, I’m not talking basketball. I am referring to the madness in Washington as they get ready for another Continuing Resolution. It’s sort of like going to the ATM everyday for your pocket change except that it’s all borrowed money, and the ATM fees are horrendous. I hope they’re enjoying their spring break.

It looks like I won’t be purchasing a Caribbean island. My basketball bracket went down the toilet, and I will not be winning.

Our indoor plants are beginning to emerge, and I’m looking forward to planting the garden. I guess I’ll be fighting herbivores all summer.

This whole Libyan mess is an embarrassment. Not the fact that the exercise was illegal and unconstitutional. All the presidents have done that. The litany of justifications and rationalizations made my “B.S. meter” go ballistic. The sense that these egomaniacs have to prove their manhood by bombing someone. The idea that two weeks ago Ghaddafi was our “friend” to whom we were giving $1.7 million of our precious borrowed dollars. Now we want him dead…or we don’t. Either way, he or his family will be radically P.O.’d.

Also on Libya…so we confer with NATO, the UN, the EU and the Arab League…Congress? Don’t think so. The good news and the bad news: The New World Order is just as incompetent as the old one, but it’s just as demanding, controlling and evil, too. Here’s how the New World Order would assign global responsibility:

Food production; Ethiopia   Food distribution; Haiti      Food preparation: Great Britain

Military strategy; France        Military fighting; Italy

Social skill training: Russia      Social protocol coordinator; Singapore

Drug Czar; Netherlands           Ass’t Drug Czar; Afghanistan

Population Czar; China            Ass’t Population Czar; India

Tourism Czar: Cuba                  Ass’t Tourism Czar: Pakistan

OK, you get the idea. It would be funny except that we all would suffer. I believe that the New World Order will never come to fruition for three reasons: Incompetence by the political leaders, guerilla action by those who love freedom, and God disrupted Babel plus Alexander the Great died before he could conquer it all. The Lord rules the cosmos, and he doesn’t want some pretentious goons trying to assume his role.

He thinks he’s infallible

There should be lesson here

When leadership is a need.

Buckeye’s lost Sweet Sixteen game to Kentucky, 62-60, to close at 34-3 for the year.

Buckeye Women play at Noon on Saturday versus Tennessee on ESPN.

On Thursday I received a mailer from “Speaker John Boehner” requesting that I “sign” the petition to “repeal” Obamacare. It was supposed to provide an impetus for the Senate to follow through on the House repeal bill. Oh yeah, they asked for money. I sent NO money, and I wrote on the “survey” that the House leadership choked and chickened-out by NOT defunding the $105.5 billion in the Continuing Resolution vote. Venal idiots. They rely on your/our ignorance. Their arrogance radically ticks me off.

How’s that UN military force working out? How many troops are there from the Arab League? Three…four…a dozen? So far, I’ve seen one helicopter from Qatar. That should scare the tar out of Ghaddafi. In the first 6 days of the conflict, the cost of deployment and armaments wiped out the GOP budget cuts in the last CR.

Never forget…narcissism can be deadly. Certainly we want leaders with self-esteem and self-confidence, but when they are self-delusional about their own infallibility, crap happens…big time.
