Littlestuff Weekender-4-30-2011

Farewell, dear April, your skies are cloudy and hazy.
Your incessant drizzle and rain have driven me crazy.
May should be better with more sunshine abounding,
But the glare will hurt my eyes and my head will be pounding.

Atlas Shrugged, Part I…a short-form review: For those who have read Rand’s massive tome, the film was insufficient because of what was missing. Even though the movie portrayed the first third of the book, it is extremely difficult to translate some 400 pages into 205 minutes of film and maintain fidelity with the original work. Paul Johansson’s direction was admirably faithful to Rand’s point-of-view.  Anecdotally, many of those with whom I spoke, and who were familiar with the book expressed some dismay that a favorite scene or thread was missing from the movie….but each critic had a different “favorite” that had been left out.
News this past week suggested that the producers, John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow, are going forward with Part II and Part III for release in April of 2012 and 2013.Their efforts, if successful, could be helpful for those viewers who have not read the books because Part I appeared somewhat difficult for uninformed movie goers to follow. One scene in the film seemed to have universal appeal for the audience: the scene where Dagny, in essence, told the engineers’ union to pound sand. People who were familiar with the book and those who were not whooped or applauded at the encounter.

Bottom line for me: Reasonably well done but not as fulfilling as the book. Cinematically it was better than I expected from a 26 day “shoot.” The casting and acting were good, but they wisely allowed the story to carry the day. I liked it, and I’ll purchase several DVD copies when they are produced

Tuesday will be a big push for the Ohio Project to gather signatures for The Ohio Healthcare Freedom Act. If you are affiliated with a patriot or liberty group, check to see what plans may be in store in your local area.

On Thursday the North Central Ohio Conservatives will be hosting Sheriff Mack at the Camden Falls Reception and Conference Center, 2460 South State Route 231 (Just north of Rt. 224), Tiffin, Ohio. Admission is $5.00 for a GREAT program about our rights as citizens. Law enforcement personnel and their immediate families get in free (however donuts are $5 ea….just kidding). Also, there will be a gun raffle for a Ruger LCP .380 and a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II .45. Program starts at 6:30pm Thursday. We’ll see you there.  www.sheriffmack.com   and   www.northcentralconservatives.com

Also on Thursday, Mark Steyn---undocumented guest host, columnist and commentator---will be appearing at the West Lecture Hall of the Oberlin Science Center at 8:00pm. Should be informative and entertaining. His topic is “Free Speech and the Twilight of the West.”

There will be a National Day of Prayer Celebration Thursday, May 5th, from 9:00am to 2:00pm in Downtown Cleveland on Public Square, Southwest Quadrant. Prayer and singing.

A reminder that I’ve reentered radio world on 1370 WSPD with the “Eye on Toledo” program from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. www.WSPD.com

OK, Obama tries to prove that he was born in Hawaii, a prince and a commoner got hitched in England, silver set an all-time high, oil prices are zooming upward, food is more expensive, they’re arguing about the debt ceiling, a devastating and tragic series of storms swept through the South, Kasich tells Obama to mind his own business, SEIU announces a nationwide push to organize people earning less than $35K (is that going to be Obama’s new definition of “rich?” …more than $35 thousand.)

A tiny 4” lizard may halt oil production in much of Texas. Endangered Species Act. Come on, Congress; put these abusive agencies on the endangered list. Do a Dr. Kevorkian on them.

Meanwhile we learned that it’s easier for people on the “terrorist watch list” to buy firearms than it is for BP to get a drilling permit after spending $4 billion in paperwork, leases and development.

Personally, I’ve had enough rain. I’m ready to slog outside and plant my gardens and my fields.

Coming up on Saturday, May 14th, we’ll have the Rally for the Constitution on the Village Green in Canfield, Ohio. I believe that it goes from 11:00am to 2:00pm. We’ll be speaking/evangelizing for liberty.

Look around you….without Liberty it’s all just window dressing.
